
Greave Primary School is a single storey detached educational building located at Werneth Road, Stockport, Cheshire, SK6 1HR
The school is a modern construction, made of brick, glass and block walls. It has timber floors and a timber trussed tiled pitched roof. Internal walls are either concrete block or plasterboard on timber stud partitioning. Internally the walls and ceilings are
plastered, along with some suspended ceiling tiles.
Primary access to the building is through the aluminium front doors to the reception area. There is an electronic sign in system for staff and visitors for roll call purposes.
There is a main hall and kitchen. All classrooms are accessed via corridors. There are also two mezzanine levels which are used as a staff room and offices. Externally, there is a converted bus which serves as a classroom. Along with a newly built hobbit house and forest school structures.
Heating is provided throughout, using a gas central heating system.
Day to day there are around 330 pupils present in the building, along with 45 members of staff.
FIRE ALARM DETECTION
The building is fitted with a Grade A L2 Fire Alarm installed to comply with BS5839. Staff test the fie alarm every week and record in the logbook.
EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM
Emergency lighting is fitted in the common areas internally to both the hallways and final exits to meet the requirements of
BS-5266. Staff carry out monthly functional tests and record in the log book.
SOURCES OF IGNITION / ELECTRICAL
The electrical installation condition report was carried out in August 2021, with a retest due in August 2026. A PAT testing regime is in place with appliances next due for inspection in February 2024.
FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT
There is a mixture of 2kg CO2 and 6L foam extinguishers located to various strategic fire points to satisfy the selection and
positioning requirements of BS-5306. Staff carry out monthly checks and record in the log book
EVACUATION POLICY
A simultaneous evacuation strategy has been adopted for the premises. Upon activation of the fire alarm all occupants are
instructed to evacuate the premises and make their way to the designated fire assembly point to the school field. Staff will provide assistance with the evacuation process, and as such all staff have been made fully aware of the procedure should such an incidence occur. Fire drills and evacuation procedures are undertaken at regular intervals with the findings suitable documented.
FIRE FIGHTING PROVISIONS
The property has a fire station locally, Hyde Fire Station, a 24/7 manned fire station is located just 2.4 miles away from the
property. In the event of a fire or an emergency a rapid response should therefore ensue. Access for fire fighting personnel and vehicles would be made via Werneth Road where a fire hydrant is located
